All about... Ibtisam Ali, Consultant

"I joined Socitm Advisory through the Graduate Programme. Since then, I have travelled to different cities in England that I normally would have not. I have been exposed to various projects throughout the rotation phase which I have enjoyed very much. In addition, I am also able to work on two to three different projects all at the same time. I find this very exciting and you are constantly developing new skills and expanding your knowledge base"

 Hints and tips for applying

How to make your application stand out

Relate relate relate! Make sure your CV and application relate to the role you are applying for. Make really clear all of the experience and qualifications you have which would make you an ideal applicant for the role! If you don't have a lot of professional experience please try to highlight your personal achievements and successes and how they make you suited to the role.

How to prepare for an interview

Prepare smart questions! Interviews are a two way street, an interviewer will want to know that you’re thinking seriously about what it would be like to work for us! Prepare even smarter answers! To ensure you stay on track and are concise with your answers, prepare and practice an interview method such as STAR – situation, task, action and result! Consider and memorise three examples of your best work to date. What achievements have you been most proud of and why? This helps avoid having that dreaded 'blank' moment in the interview. Another technique for this is, the day before the interview, you prepare by thinking of 10 questions you might be asked and writing down what your answers to those questions could be.

How to communicate duing an interview

Remember your body language counts! Use confident, accessible body language – smile frequently and make eye contact when you’re speaking!
Be authentic! A big part about interviewing is to bring your true self to the meeting… An interviewer will want to get to know the real you and it will be an opportunity for you to be sure this is an organisation that will appreciate the real you!
